A Fresh Scent For Our Polluted Home

I went a bit stir crazy last week being on lock down with a sick child. To keep myself from going mad I experimented with recipes and projects from Pinterest.

When you are stuck inside sick or with a sick child you start (or at least I did) to feel gross. No matter how many times I cleaned up, I still felt like there was this yucky “thing” floating around the house. Summer weather in Florida keeps your windows closed, so I decided to test out this popular pin to bring a fresh scent to our polluted home. {Our house is clean, I’m a bit dramatic!}

The pin originated from One More Moore and the directions for this William Sonoma potion are as follows:

Fill a pot 2/3 full with water.
Add a sliced lemon, a few sprigs of rosemary and 1-2 tsp. of vanilla extract.
Let this simmer all day long, adding water when needed.

In my logic I thought if I brought this to a quick boil and then reduce it to a simmer I could get the fresh scent quicker…wrong. An overpowering pine smell filled the air. I added some extra water and removed it from the heat to give the our noses a break! Vanilla is a favorite smell of mine so I did the full 2 teaspoons.

At the end of the day my house had a warm scent that reminded me of the holiday season (due to the initial strong blast of boiled rosemary). Next time I do this I will add two lemons to give a more citrus aroma and go easy on the rosemary!

I love trying new things and thanks to Pinterest we have a never ending supply of projects and recipes to try!

    Ooh love this! I’ve been reading all these freaky articles about how candles are now supposedly bad for us! This is a great alternative!

      WHAT! Scary! I have noticed that “soy” wax is everywhere and being allergic to soy saves me from spending ridiculous amounts of $$ on candles!
