Making Life Easier: The Hospital Checklist

When it comes time to pack for the hospital and finally meet the baby it can be a little nerve wracking trying to decide what you need. I made a list and packed weeks in advance hoping that Lily would give my back and sore body a break. A week after my due date I finally headed to the hospital and I’m glad I was organized and prepared for our 3 ½ day stay. There are a few items I have added since giving birth that helped me.

As a side note, in the list below I tell you to pack a bag to bring home flowers and gifts. You might want to have another one for all the free hospital swag you will pocket when you exit! And by swag I mean all the free boat size sanitary pads, mesh granny panties, economy size drinking cup (you will be drinking plenty of water), diapers and other hospital room items. I got you excited didn’t I? Well my hospital did give us a sleep sack that we used a lot when she got older! So take all of the items in your hospital room if it will help you at home…you are paying for it anyways! My favorite item I left with was the square “leak pad” they put under you during and after birth to help with the bleeding. I used those on my bed and couch while I recovered (tmi, but hey it helped!). There were a few times in the middle of the night when Lily peed, pooped and puked and that pad saved my nice duvet! we have also traveled with it and used it as a changing station mat in hotel rooms! So enjoy this checklist and if there is anything you used please share! (To print click page 1 and page 2 )

And as a reminder here is a checklist to make sure your nursery is ready!

What an awesome list! I wasn’t really prepared when I had Ella. All I was worried about was being in extreme pain. If I were to do it again, I’d have a cute hospital gown for sure!

This is wonderful! And quite timely for me 😉 I’m actually pretty pleased with myself — most of the items on your list are already packed in my bag. But the reminder to bring the diaper bag, receiving blanket, etc. for our little guy is awesome — I actually didn’t realize we could bring our own blankets or clothes, I assumed the hospital would use their own stuff by default (but ours would be MUCH cuter in pictures!). Excuse me while I go pack up more adorable items for him! 🙂

Go Brooke Go! Can you believe that it is almost time??? I realized the clothes option when Emily Ley gave birth and she had Brady in cute outfits. Plus, at our hospital they used white long sleeve shirts for both top and bottoms for newborns (their cute legs go in the arm sleeves). This helped with the huge clasp that clips on their new belly button. One thing I didn’t add on the list is hair bows for little girls. It is precious to get those shots at the hospital. Emily took a picture of Brady in baseball hat that is still one of my favorite pictures of him! I can’t wait to see pics of your little man!
