Loving Bloglovin’ and Why You Should Too!

blogloovtitleHey folks a little reminder for all you Google Readers…on July first you’re going to say adios to it! Yep as part of Google’s ‘spring cleaning’ they are pouring more time into fewer products. But don’t frete…there are other options for you.

For those of you that are scratching your forehead, Google Reader was a way to save all of your favorite blogs (like Lily & Bliss!) to one location. When a blog has a new post that feeds into the reader. This way you can stay up to date on all your favorite blogs.

Have you ever just stumbled upon a new blog and liked the current post…you thought I want to continue this…then life happens (dog needs to pee or your kid needs a diaper change) and that really cool blog’s name has vanished from your memory…if you’re a mother this happens all the time with blog titles, grocery lists and important to dos! Well using a reader allows you to quickly add the new blog so when “mommy brain” switches in gear the readers will remember for you!

Google reader is gonzo on July first so if you are a user….don’t wait, sign up with other options so you can transfer all your blogs now! Two options are Feedly or Bloglovin’. I personally found Bloglovin’ to be easier to navigate so let me show you what I love (btw Feedly has some of the same attributes but I was drawn to Bloglovin’ visually and for it’s easy use).

It is so easy to add blogs to Bloglovin’. If you have a Google Reader and want to transfer all your favorite blogs to Bloglovin’ click here for the simple steps! You can do a quick search for your blog, or you can hover over “top blogs” and pick a category to view other blogs.

Bloglovin’ works on your computer, iPhone, Android and iPad.

You will receive an email with your daily feeds from Bloglovin’ all in ONE email. So you can cut down emails!

bloglovincategoriesYou can create your own categories and organize your blogs (this made me giddy!). For example you can create the following categories: Foodie, DIY and Baby. You then can add Young House Love to DIY, Skinny Taste to Foodie and on and on. That way if your only feeling the mood to read about kitchen remodels you can read just the DIY blogs.

You have the option to “like” posts and Bloglovin’ will save them under all the other “liked” posts for you to read again whenever you feel like it!bloglovinmain

Bloglovin’ allows you to comment on the blog directly from their feeder.

You can quickly skim over a new post from one blog and if you want to read it later you can mark it as “unread” so it stays in the que with all unread posts.

bloglovinbarWhen you click on a new post from a blog it will appear as if you are going straight to their site. You will notice at the top of the page will be a Bloglovin’ bar that will allow you to post to Facebook, Tweet or Pin whatever you liked about that particular post. There is also a drop down box that lists all the other blogs you follow that you can skip to from that page or just click the “newer” “older” and “liked” posts to continue your blog reading.

Pretty easy ain’t it! So if you’re looking for a new reader for all your favorite blogs or you’re a newbie to the reader realm and just discovered how easier it will make your life than hop on over to Bloglovin’ and get started! You can click on the logo below to add me to your reading list!

Friday Link Love: vol. 5

linklove8 more days until Lily turns TWO! Sniff sniff…while I craft away on her party décor enjoy some Friday links!

I’ve got some funny links, but I found this one so interesting. What do these places have in common….16-th century Italian village, an American train station in Detroit from the builders of the famous Grand Central and a theme park in Japan? They are abandoned monuments that are beautiful and have remarkable stories. Read here.

board with that one serious link?         okay okay…

Pictures of kids caught in the act of something bad make me giggle….if it’s my kid that laughing comes about a day later. Catching kids in funny napping situations always give me a chuckle as well…that’s why I love checking out Naps Happen for some hilarious photos. Here are some good ones: Black swan dive, papasan pretzel, in a dresser drawer and my favorite one…two out of three sleeping.

Hi my name is Amy and I’m a reality tv fan. Yep I sadly have to admit I’m hooked on the sad limo exits, Big Brother drama and all seasons of the housewives (but the crazy Jersey women are my favs). So when I saw this clip of two women on LIVE tv get catty I loved it. It seems that the news anchor and the weather lady have a long lasting feud that starts to show on live tv…now why can’t that happen with the Tampa news? Watch here.

Lily likes the show Calliou (on Sprout) and I LOATH that show. Of course I could just not turn it on, but it is the one show that she will watch and neatly eat every bite of her lunch…and that is without flinging a nugget to the dog, aiming and spitting a blueberry at the kitchen table and waving a yogurt stick all around spraying the blinds, window and wall. SO I will take 20 minutes of that whining Calliou for a full stomach for Lily (means a better nap!) and a clean kitchen. Calliou annoyance is one of those common bonds moms have like lack of sleep and the ability to pee when you laugh or sneeze. So when Where’s the F#*cking Mommy Manual came up with a hysterical list of annoying kid shows and Calliou topped it…I raised my beer (don’t worry Lily was asleep) and said AMEN. Check out the list here.

and some lovely pictures of a recent yogurt showdown…(and the finger is making another appearance)linkloveyogurt

linkyogurtwindowHappy Friday y’all and enjoy the weekend…

My trainer often sends me hilarious videos, but this video had me crying tears. It’s a video that I often go back to watch just for a quick laugh! ….”Tow that finga UP…shake it off!”

Then there was this gem I found yesterday thanks to CNN….have you heard of prancersize? Listen I’m giving this lady credit for at least getting out there and attempting to motivate people to workout. Let’s face it working out is not pretty…but this lady is attempting to change that. I think the ‘gallop’ is my favorite (at 2:24 mark). Watch the video here.

Jimmy Kimmel is GENIOUS!!!!! Try not to laugh at this video. Oh and then he had this challenge (the last two boys are my fav!).

Then Kimmel pulled this one…and the Christmas tree part almost had me peeing my pants.

Enjoy the weekend folks:)

Friday Link Love: vol. 3

linkloveIt’s Friday whoop whoop!!!

We are starting our Friday off by paying a visit to my friend Rachel’s new home and having an outdoor play date with some of Lily’s buddies. Mike gets home from a two day work trip and we start the weekend off right with sushi for dinner. Junior year in college my roommate convinced me to try a California roll and now yearn and obsess of getting my raw fish fix.

So to start your Friday off right take a minute for these hilarious links!

The labor pain simulation has been hitting up the Internet by storm…and of course it is! I think every wife would like their husbands to experience this so they would really know.

Still on a Mother Day high here is the cutest ode to mothers. This kid cracks me up and his giggle is contagious!

Prenatal Pole Dancing??? Of course Funny or Die thought about making a video about this and Christina Applegate kills it!

Lily will watch videos of herself forever. The videos on my iPhone have saved me more times to count from a public tantrum. From the createters of JibJab (those funny videos you can make of elves dancing with your face) comes a cute website Story Bots. There you can upload a picture of your child’s face to a robot’s body and y’all can laugh and sing along to your mini robot while they dance along to some classic songs like Itsy Bitsy Spider and Old McDonald. Your robot kid can even star in his or her own online book! They have an app for your iPhone too and it’s FREE called ABC Videos by StoryBots where your kid can learn their letters in a fun and interactive way. That’s robot Lily singing “With a Cluck cluck here…”

Favorites Lately: vol. 1

favoritesvol1titleWith our trip to Disney World and Mother’s Day this weekend I have been treating myself to a few shopping trips and have fallen in love with everything. Everything! Most times I get home I either second guess a tunic or the blazer doesn’t fit right (because Lily’s tantrum prevented me from tying it on!) and I make a few returns. Some of these purchases are so awesome I have gone back to get them in other colors! And yes I’ve thrown in a few items that are for Lily…it’s so hard not to shop for my mini me!

So take a peek at some of my favorites lately!

1. Drapey Woven Shorts from Loft $39.50
I’m a huge fan of Ann Taylor’s Loft brand. When I went searching for some cute but comfortable shorts for our trip to Disney World I was so thrilled when I stumbled upon these. The sorts are a light linen, perfect for Florida heat, and the elastic waist bumps that comfort level even higher. I loved these so much I purchased three pairs in black, rust and grey.

2. Viola Flower Sandals from Loft $39.50
Sandals are a staple for Florida living. As a stay-at-home mom to a toddler slipping on sandals to run errands makes my life easier. These charming flower sandals are so light weight I went ahead and picked up another pair in black (I got them on sale too!).

3. Gapfit drapey tunic from Gap $26.95 $24.99
Now that I’m getting back to pre-baby shape (finally) I purchased this work out top so I could feel prettier when I worked out. I don’t know but there is something about actually looking good while I attempt a burpee or running jumping jacks that keeps me going back to my trainer. I’m starting to like my body again and I‘m tired of sporting oversized shirts! This shirt is ridiculously soft Lily rubs her hands back and forth on it just like her lovey!

favoritesvol1middle4. One Shoulder Applique Dress from Soma $89 $64.99
Have you heard of Soma? This store has more than just intimates and loungewear! Sometimes I have been able to find some super cute dresses and they are so comfy that I could sleep in them. I own two maxi dresses from them but the one above is my favorite. You can dress it up or wear it to Panera with flip flops. I’m obsessed with the super soft stretch knit jersey material. It receives major points for removable foam bra cups that help shape and conceal on those days I just don’t want to put a bra on! If you head into their store check out their pajamas. I have two pairs and they are my favorite pjs, but warning for the young hip momma some of the prints are a bit scary…but there are plenty of options!

5. Dior Nail Glow from Sephora $24
This stuff is fab. When your just not feeling a specific color apply Dior’s Nail Glow to give your nails a shiny light color of pink. Your nails will appear as if you went and got an American manicure!

6. Lowercase “L” letter initial necklace in gold from Olive Yew
My dear friend Emily Ley gave me this sweet neck candy for my birthday. I had been wanting a light weight necklace with Lily’s initial and Emily must have been reading my mind. The 17 inch chain hangs at the perfect length and for someone with sensitive skin I have had no problems wearing this sweet charm. (Thanks Em!)

7. Gold Envelope Clutch in gold from Gap $39.95
It’s nice to own a cute clutch for the rare times I leave the house without my diaper bag! You can’t beat this price either.

favoritesvol1minime8. DVF babyGap Wrap Dress from Gap $45
Fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg is back with her second collection for the wee ones at Gap. Known for her wrap dresses I picked up this bright snorkel blue print for Lily. I purchased a white eyelet wrap dress when she was one and the material was a bit crisp and Lily wasn’t comfortable in it. This time around the material is stretchy cotton that has me full of envy over that tiny size t-3 (I got it in a bigger size so she can wear it longer!) Because the material is so soft I will be picking up another one before they sell out again!

9. Embellished flower jelly sandals from Gap $16.95
Memories of my jelly sandals as a child hit me when I saw these and of course I needed to get Lily a pair. With spring and summer weather these shoes are perfect for errands or trips to the beach or pool. Gap sells another style with a strap across the foot and I found that these are a lot easier to get on and appear to be more comfortable for her feet. I may or may not be going back for the neon yellow and blue sandals too!

10. Gingham one-piece from Gap $24.95 $19.99
Gap had me at gingham. Yes the weather in Florida has already allowed us to wear bathing suits and this one was too cute to pass up!

5 year marker

weddingbeachkissI feel like I just came home from the hospital with Lily yesterday. Celebrating five years of marriage??? Really? It feels more like ten…but that’s a good thing!

Mike is my best friend, a loving husband and the best father. THE BEST. He still gets excited to get her up in the morning and after naps when he’s home. He’s not afraid to be a daddy to a little girl, twirling like a ballerina, playing with dolls and “creating” pretty ponytails finished with bows.

I’m a lucky gal.

Five years ago Friday I was a nervous wreck. Not that I wasn’t ready or that Mike wasn’t ‘the one’. He was and is. All that planning and then the day finally arrived. We would be standing in front of all of our family and close friends (and all the resort on lookers) and that was scary. I’m not a big fan of being the center of attention. I was so worried that something was going to go wrong. Things did. Lots of things. But by the time I finally got down that isle and said I do…I just didn’t care as much.

weddingbeachlaughWhenever a friend or a stranger gets hitched I have two big pieces of advice. The first is to expect that something will go wrong. That way when something does, you will be ready and focused on what really matters…marrying your love and future father of your unborn children. Brides can loose focus on what the wedding is really about. They get all wrapped up in the production and lose sight of the actual significance of why there’s a party.

At my wedding the mishaps started while we were getting ready. A little over an hour before the wedding our wedding suite was getting a bit too warm. The room faced Clearwater beach with stunning views from the rows of windows wrapping around the suite. By the time I was standing in front of those windows getting shots of the gown and veil I was a sweaty ball of nerves. We later found out that the AC would only turn on if the sliding glass doors to the balconies were locked. We all kept going outside to enjoy the sunshine and views, so we didn’t think we needed to lock it to turn on the AC….pretty fancy technology that we were unaware of. Actually there was a sticker on the glass door with instructions but it was overlooked by my nerves and five glasses of champagne.

The next hiccup was when I walked down the isle. I told my dad right before the doors opened that I was going to barf. That faded when I heard the singer’s voice crack (twice) and all I could think of was how bad it sounded. Not at all what I had dreamed of. BUT my cake….was totally dreamy….a dreamy pink beach sand castle!

weddingcakeWe had requested pink margaritas to be served. Nothing. The band looked like they rolled out of bed. I didn’t request uniforms, but a raggedy t-shirt and baggy cargo shorts? There were no candles even though each table was to be covered in them. And the lights stayed on, instead of dimmed, a majority of the evening. The wedding coordinator was sick and insisted she make the wedding announcements instead of letting her assistant help. Imagine a raspy  voice with laryngitis trying to announce ….”Now put your hands together for Mr. & Mrs. Michael Romano….”….Oh Mike and I crack up about it now.

weddingcrystalOh the linens were my favorite slip up. We were supposed to have this light organza laying on the tables and the chairs were suppose to be a simple white cover. When Mike and I made our entrance to the ballroom I was mortified. Bright dark pink sashes were tied around every single chair. Pretty sure the reception could have passed for an event for Pepto-Bismol. Again, I made a few comments to Mike and friends but I didn’t let the screw ups ruin the day. I had too much fun laughing at one of the groomsmen while he created as many looks as he could with the vibrant chair sash. When he used it as a shoe rag and proceeded to polish the camera man’s feet I giggled so hard I almost peed my gown.

weddingfirstlookisleBesides prepping yourself for the inevitable wedding hiccup my other advice is the most important. When you get to the isle and you see your fiancé, lock eyes and don’t look away. Whether you have a long way or a short distance, that moment was my absolute favorite. It was Mike’s first glance and the waterworks immediately started. He will tell you wind blew sand into both of his eyes…but we all know the truth! I lost track of the off key wedding singer when I finally saw Mike waiting for me next to our pastor.

weddingvowsNow what’s my advice for marriage? Ha I would like to know the answer if anyone has it please. Marriage is just like motherhood…you learn along the way. Five years later and I’m still learning…

Somewhere In Between Pushups and Squats

proposalpicThis picture is on the day Mike proposed and boy is there a great story behind our engagement. We are coming up on our five year anniversary and I’m feeling a little sentimental…

A time held tradition is that the bride’s father is asked permission before the engagement and kept secret until the groom pops the question. At the time my parents had not yet moved to Tampa, so my father would stay with me during work trips. One night my friend, Alisha (dear friend I co-hosted a baby shower for) and I were working out with a trainer in my living room while our boyfriends (now husbands) were having some beers in the back yard with my dad. Somewhere in between pushups and squats my father and Alisha’s boyfriend, Adam, came in to replenish their supply.

(Extremely excited, like a 10 year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert) My dad: “Um Amy, Mike might have just asked me for your hand in marriage….” (yes dad you were that excited!)

(Shocked with BIG wide eyes) Adam (Alisha’s now husband): “Um…Bill…I don’t think you were supposed to say anything….”

(Shocked & confused) Me: “Wait, what???? Did I just hear you right?……Is he about to ask me now?? Wait? He said WHAT??

Mike was sitting out by the pool in pure joy as he had gained clearance to propose while completely oblivious to the reality unfolding inside. He came in after a few minutes when the guys didn’t come back with more refreshments and quickly found out the beans had been spilled. But in typical Mike fashion he didn’t care and played it off as if it was part of his master plan.

Mike didn’t pop the desired question for a LONG time.  It almost became a game for Mike. Because my dad had let me know way in advance, every dinner or date we went on I was expecting to come home with a sparkly diamond and that soon-to-be-bride glow. Boy was I let down MULTIPLE times. I finally gave up assuming Mike needed more time re-thinking if his Yankee-Brady-Brunch-esque family had room for my southern-conservative-yet-liberal-Californian-esque family.

My questions and prayers were answered with a very surprising proposal a few months later. I was coming home from a long day of work. It was a very hot, humid and sticky Florida summer day. I ran to Target for a few things and of course came home with ten bags of “necessary” purchases. I knew Mike would be there when I got home so I sent a text asking him to help with the bags…he said okay. Tired, sweaty and in dire need of a shower I started to moan when Mike didn’t come out to help. I had beads of sweat on my face and I’m pretty sure my swamp back had seeped through my red cotton dress.

As I came in from the garage the laundry room door was closed. Trying to save time I had carried in all the bags (that were now cutting the circulation on my wrists) and I called out to Mike to help with the door. After the second yell for assistance I’m pretty sure I had steam exiting my ears and nostrils.  Using the last bit of energy I lifted my arm (now I was experiencing buyer’s remorse from these “necessary” purchases weighing a ton) and used my pinky finger to pull down on the door handle and pull the door forward.

Then my mouth drooped and I felt like the biggest a$$hole on the planet. Red rose petals and tiny tea light candles made a path to Mike who was on bended knee. As I dropped the bags he leaned over and pressed play on his laptop and Brad Paisley’s “She’s Everything” started to play. Tears and sweat poured down my cheeks as I slowly started to make my way to Mike.

Mike used red tea light candles and in true Amy fashion I stopped and gasped when I noticed that Mike had spilled red wax all over the carpet. Wanting to immediately clean it up, Mike shook the tiny jewelry box to gain my attention back and said, “come here please.”

After some sweet words…a yes…hugs and kisses…I turned and started to sweep up the petals and tackle the now dyed red carpet from the spilled wax. My tired sweaty temper and crazy organized OCD almost ruined my engagement. It’s a good story that I will enjoy telling my kids and grandchildren…but it will only be a story because my OCD kept me from taking a picture of all Mike’s sweet hard work. We did however get the picture above. We drove over to my parent’s house to share the good news and my mom snapped this priceless memento.

After five years of marriage nothing has changed. I still sweat and lose patience (quickly) and Mike thoroughly enjoys making me wait and pushing my small buttons.

A Week In Already?

We are already a week into 2013. That is just plain silly. Wasn’t I just wrapping presents for Lily?? Crazy!

With a week into this New Year, how have you been with your resolutions? I stayed true to my goals and it feels great. My resolution for 2013 was to focus on what matters to me…my faith, family and health.

Each day I have carved out a little bit of time to read two daily devotionals I purchased. I either read first thing in the morning or before bed. Yes I got two. One is a tiny little book with a quick paragraph, totally easy to read but always leaves me thinking and searching deep inside myself for answers. The tiny book is Beth Moore’s Believing God Day by Day: Growing Your Faith All Year Long (find it here).

My other purchase was A Daily Women’s Devotional (find it here) written by women married to pastors. These women are wives, mothers and friends who speak about issues that plague women. My eyes have already swelled reading two of the scriptures. It feels like I am reading a letter from an aunt or dear friend…each day has spoken so much truth.

devotionalFinding a church for my family was another part of my resolution. Yesterday was the first Sunday of the year and my dear friend Emily Ley and I started “operation find a church.” We attended a family oriented service near both our homes and have to admit we were kinda giddy over their awesome child care program. Next weekend we are going to try another church, maybe another after that just to make sure we know the church we pick is perfect for our little families.

God of second chances…in your weakness is greatness…greatness is in you…don’t let your limitations limit you…understanding the bigger purpose…what really counts…If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done (Ecclesiastes 11:4 LB)…These are a few of my notes from the service, pretty inspiring for the first Sunday if you ask me.

My family is my everything. 2013 is the year I devote myself to them fully. Mike and I need more husband and wife time so we are making that happen in March when we take a weekend trip to Key West. This is HUGE for me personally. I have yet to leave Lily for longer than a five hour period. That five hour period was a date night with Mike where we went to dinner and a show. Never have I left her overnight. I know we need to get away and have some alone time, but goodness is it going to be tough to leave her. My mom and dad will be watching her, which brings relief. I don’t think I could trust anyone with watching Lily for that long besides my mother. Many of you out there probably think I’m crazy for going this long without an overnight away. I might, but at least I have one planned, right??!!??. So I have sixty days to prepare myself for my first trip away from my baby. Until then, Mike and I have opened our schedules for a Disney World trip with Lily…her very first time! I don’t know who will be more excited….Lily or us? Knowing her reaction to costumes (remember her Santa experience?), we are in for either sheer terror or complete glee.

Trying to concentrate on a healthier me this year I tried a Zumba workout.  Holy moly was it tough. I did a home workout video, and so thankful I attempted this at home instead of out in public because I looked like a hot mess. On Wednesday I woke up extra early to complete the video before Lily or Mike awoke. I swear I had rhythm when I was young…I did cheerleading for petes sake! But now I’m a thirty year old mother that hasn’t been out dancing in years and boy did it show. You know those hilarious images on Pinterest/internet where it shows some totally fit person running with the caption “what I feel like when I’m running….” and underneath is a picture of a basset hound running with crazy floppy ears and lose lips flying with globs of saliva reading “What I really look like running…” Seen that?? Well I could be the poster child for the image with a caption reading “what I really look like attempting Zumba…”

runningHOT MESS I tell you. My trainer James got a big kick out of that story. BUT the glass half full outlook is I did what I said I would do. I set a goal and I did it…even if I looked silly. I was drenched in sweat and my calves hurt, so I know I burned some calories! I did it. Cheers to that!

Saturday I woke up and made a coffee cake from scratch. It was good, but filled with loads of sugar leaving Mike and me gripping our stomachs. That’s when I made another commitment to a 30-day eat clean challenge. I lost six pounds last time, but more importantly I felt recharged. I woke up each day with so much energy. Two additional benefits from the challenge were all my meals were planned and I saved money at the store by purchasing only what I needed. Read all about it here and here’s week one, two, three and four of the first journey. If you are looking to get healthy and loose some lbs try eating clean. Challenge yourself. It is NOT a crazy diet where you have to eat food that tastes like cardboard or live off of a watery tasteless soup. Eating clean is real food. Fresh food. Just try it for a week! You have nothing to loose…except that extra jiggle from all those holiday cookies!

In seven days I have started prepping my soul, family, home and body for a better 2013. Have you started on you resolutions? If not….what’s holding you back?

Amy, you crack me up about Zumba. I felt the exact same way when I did it the first couple of times, except I didn’t do it in the privacy of my home, but rather in a class full of women. I felt so uncoordinated. I didn’t understand, because like you I was a cheerleader too! For many, many years. Anyway, my friend and I spent most of our time laughing at each other and when I left there I didn’t understand why it was such a great workout. Well, I guess it is if you have the moves down. I stood there a lot scratching my head. Anyway, about the 4th or 5th class I got the hang of it. I still can’t shake my booty quite as good as some of the college girls but it was fun!

I’m working on my goals as well. One of mine is to become closer to God also. We go to church, but other than that time on Sunday that is the only time I spend time with Him which makes me feel like a loser! I don’t make the time, but I have this year. I’m doing #shereadstruth. You can find them on instagram. They do short studies everyday and post what you are supposed to read daily. I think there is also a website, but I just look at Instagram for direction. It’s short and sweet, but very good.

    Have a great 2013!

Elizabeth- GOOD for you going out in public and taking that class!!!! You are so brave! I haven’t given up and will keep trying…anything that gets my heart rate up and gets me sweating counts for cardio right?

I hear you on the faith only on Sunday. We were like that for a long time. Then Lily came and we just stopped going all together. I saw the #shereadstruth too and looks like a great series!

Cheers to your 2013 and I’m dying to see more pictures from Ella’s birthday party!!
